1. Recognize the widespread impact of burnout on physicians and their ability to provide patient care.
2. Describe systemic factors and individual traits that predispose physicians to burnout.
3. Provide evidence-based interventions to help physicians rise above burnout.
Target Audience:
General pediatricians, family physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, psychologists, and nurses.
Identified Gap:
Despite increasing awareness of physician burnout, many practicing clinicians do not consistently recognize the early signs and contributing factors of burnout in themselves or colleagues, nor are they fully equipped to implement evidence-based strategies that promote resilience and well-being. As a result, burnout continues to adversely affect physician health, professional satisfaction, productivity, and the quality and safety of patient care. There is a need for clinicians to better understand the prevalence and drivers of burnout, identify individual and system-level risk factors, and apply proven interventions that help mitigate burnout and foster sustainable professional fulfillment.
