Grand Rounds: Akron Children’s Hospital Goes Orange Conference

05-29-2026

By Megan Petruzzi LPCC-S , Director MRSS Region 6, Coleman Health Services

Objectives (Educational Content) :

1. Demonstrate an understanding of the purpose of MRSS and the regionalization model to deliver services across the state of Ohio.

2.Identify the 3 stages of MRSS and interventions provided at each stage.

3.Develop an understanding of how to make a referral and explain services to families in need of MRSS.

Target Audience:

General pediatricians, family physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, psychologists, and nurses.

Identified Gap:

Many healthcare providers and care team members lack a clear understanding of the purpose, structure, and access pathways of Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS) within Ohio’s regionalized behavioral health model. This includes limited familiarity with the three stages of MRSS interventions and uncertainty in how to appropriately initiate referrals and communicate available services to families. As a result, MRSS may be underutilized or accessed too late, leading to missed opportunities for timely crisis stabilization and coordinated, community-based care. Education is needed to improve provider knowledge and competence in recognizing appropriate use, navigating the referral process, and effectively connecting families to MRSS.
