1. Akron Children’s has openings in its vaccine clinics for those 16 and older at our Akron and Mahoning Valley campuses.

Steven Heckman came down from his room for a special visit with Murphy and Betsy Riley. Steven enjoyed giving Murphy love and attention.

Seniors Tem Chau and Saraza Byake were ready to roll up their sleeves to receive the vaccine in hopes of making it safer for them to be around friends and family members.
4. During a game of tag, Calix Jason was running up a set of stairs when he missed a step, hitting his chin and face on his way down. After his mom noticed bruising on his face and cut on his chin, she knew it was time for a trip to Akron Children’s Emergency Department.

Calix was understandably nervous about getting stitches after having a bad experience before, but our Child Life team was there for Calix and kept him calm while listening to his “chill” music.
5. The month of April is devoted to child abuse awareness. To continue to bring attention to the cause, pinwheels are displayed near our Akron and Boardman campuses.

Kathleen Nduati, a pediatric nurse practitioner in our CARE Center, places pinwheels for the display.
6. As part of the continued effort to improve access and equity to vaccine administration, Akron Children’s held its first two student vaccination clinics at Woodridge and Tallmadge high schools.

Woodridge senior Sarah Abood, 18, was one of the first students to get vaccinated. Sarah had COVID-19 in January, and said she was eager to get the vaccine so she could feel safer around friends and family

8. On Saturday, April 24th, we wrapped up National Volunteer Appreciation Week with a drive-thru celebration for all our volunteers. At both our Akron and Boardman campuses, volunteers were invited to stop by to receive cookies, yard signs, and words of appreciation from our Volunteer Services team.

Fred Linxweiler posed with his new yard sign. We want everyone to know how thankful we are for our amazing volunteers!
9. We shared a “cheat sheet” to help you determine whether you can take your child to an urgent care instead of the ER to help make life easier in those stressful moments.

Knowing when to go to Urgent Care instead of the ER can shorten your stay … and give your wallet a break.
