James Besunder, DO

Dr. Besunder is a pediatric intensivist and director of the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Akron Children’s Hospital. He’s been practicing since 1989 and with Akron Children’s since 1998. He earned his medical degree from the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-College of Osteopathic Medicine in Camden, N.J. He completed both his residency in pediatrics and his fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine; pediatric pharmacology and toxicology at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Besunder has a special interest in toxicology, shock, respiratory failure, and invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in general pediatrics and pediatric critical care medicine. He’s a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Besunder has contributed to dozens of articles, books and presentations and serves as a clinical professor of pediatrics at Northeast Ohio Medical University.  He was given the 2019 Outstanding Physician Award by the Advanced Practice Providers Awards Committee for his longstanding commitment to advanced practice providers.
