Testa Development will gift $15 million health center to Akron Children’s Hospital

10-15-2018 (Akron, Ohio )

At a beam signing event today at the site of one of its new regional health centers, Akron Children’s Hospital announced a gift from Testa Development and its principals Joel Testa and Julie Testa Thomasson.

Testa Development, which is developing the Akron Children’s Health Center, Boston Heights, has agreed to gift the $15 million building to the hospital at the end of its initial 30-year lease. The two-story, 43,000 square foot building is currently under construction at 328 E. Hines Hill Rd.

“In their half-century of married life and their half century in business, our parents – Paul and Kathie Testa – have put their community and family first and have instilled those same values in us,” said Joel Testa. “It is only natural then that as my sister, Julie, and I proceed in our own real estate development careers through Testa Development we too wish to give back to the greater Akron community.”

Akron Children’s Health Center, Boston Heights, will include a pediatric primary care office – Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics – as well as an urgent care center, rehabilitative services, radiology and laboratory services and more than 15 pediatric specialty services.

“Akron Children’s Hospital is grateful for the vision of the entire Testa family and their creativity in thoughtfully designing a way to provide Akron Children’s with such a generous and lasting gift,” said Grace Wakulchik, president of Akron Children’s Hospital. “It’s been a pleasure to work with them on this project and this gift shows they share the same vision as Akron Children’s in wanting to bring the highest quality pediatric health care to the children of our community. In every way, this new facility is being designed through the eyes of a child and we know our patient families in northern Summit and Cuyahoga counties will appreciate the convenience of having all of this pediatric expertise in one place, so close to home.”

The new medical office, which has a planned August 2019 opening, will also bring the following pediatric specialists to Boston Heights: pediatric allergy, ENT, orthopedics, sports medicine, plastic and reconstructive surgery, cardiology, dermatology, rheumatology, endocrinology and diabetes, urology, gastroenterology, pediatric surgery, neurology, and pulmonology. Maternal fetal medicine and pediatric ophthalmology will be added at a later date.
