07-27-2016 (Akron, Ohio )

S. Derrick Eddy, MD, has joined Akron Children’s Hospital’s Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, where he will provide specialized care for all types of sports injuries in children, teens and adults. He will see patients on the hospital’s Akron campus and specialty care office in Hudson.

Dr. Eddy has a special interest in injuries common in runners, such as stress factures, shin splints, and ankle and keen pain. Along with steroid injections and ultrasound-guided injections, he will also offer platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, a non-surgical treatment that uses platelets from the athlete’s own blood to repair damaged tendons, muscles, ligaments and joints.

After graduating from West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown, Dr. Eddy completed his pediatric residency at West Virginia University Hospitals, followed by a primary care sports medicine fellowship at Akron Children’s. He is board certified in sports medicine.

Akron Children’s sports medicine program provides care for all types of sports or activity-related injuries in children, teens and adults, as well as counseling on proper nutrition and training practices to prevent injury.
