Sports physicals now offered at Akron Children’s Hospital Urgent Care sites

07-30-2018 (Akron, Ohio )

High school students may have a couple of weeks before hitting the books again, but for those playing fall sports the season is already starting. That means it’s time for annual sports physicals, as required by the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA).

To make getting to that appointment easier on parents and their teens, Akron Children’s Hospital has begun offering convenient appointments for sports physicals at four of its regional Urgent Care sites through Sept. 30. Appointments can be made online at akronchildrens.org/ucsportsphysical or by calling the nearest Akron Children’s Urgent Care location.

Appointments are available Tuesdays through Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Montrose location, 4125 Medina Road in Akron (330-665-8174). Appointments are available Tuesdays through Fridays from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at Hudson, 5655 Hudson Drive (330-342-5437); Mansfield, 371 Cline Ave. (419-521-2950); and Warren, 5000 E. Market St., Suite 29 (330-856-8020).

Parents should also keep the following in mind:

• These appointments are for sports physicals only – not camp or pre-employment physicals.

• All OHSAA forms must be completed and printed prior to arrival, or the appointment will be rescheduled. Forms are available from coaches and school athletic departments.

• Completion of a physical doesn’t guarantee clearance for sports participation.

• Teens who wear glasses or contact lenses should bring them to their appointment.

• Patients under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Students who need physicals after Sept. 30 should contact their primary care provider.
