Pediatric surgeon joins Akron Children’s Hospital

Pediatric surgeon Joseph Iocono, M.D., has joined Akron Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Iocono earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed his residency in general surgery at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania, where he also completed a research fellowship in wound healing. His pediatric surgery fellowship training was at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia.

Dr. Iocono most recently earned a master’s in business administration from Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky, and took part in the Executive Leadership and Management Program at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.

Before coming to Akron, Dr. Iocono was a professor with tenure at the University of Kentucky, College of Medicine and Kentucky Children’s Hospital where he served as division chief of pediatric surgery and vice chairman for education in the department of surgery.

Dr. Iocono and his wife, Susan, are the parents of two grown daughters. They live in downtown Akron.
