Dr. John Lane named clinical director of Akron Children's Heart Center

07-20-2016 (Akron, Mahoning Valley, Ohio )

John Lane, M.D., has been named clinical director of The Heart Center at Akron Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Lane joined Akron Children’s in 2001 as director of the Heart Center’s Adult Congenital Heart Service and assumed the additional role of director of Pediatric Cardiology in 2007.

After graduating from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Dr. Lane completed an internal medicine residency at Vanderbilt and a pediatrics residency at University Hospitals’ Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. He then completed fellowships in pediatric cardiology at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and adult cardiology at University Hospitals in Cleveland.

Dr. Lane has achieved board certification in internal medicine, pediatrics, cardiovascular disease (adult cardiology), pediatric cardiology and adult congenital heart disease. He is an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Northeast Ohio Medical University.

Akron Children's Heart Center provides specialized services for infants, children, teens, as well as adults, with congenital heart problems.

The center’s comprehensive services range from a maternal/fetal consultation service which uses fetal echocardiography to detect abnormalities of an unborn baby’s heart to care of adults who have been treated for heart defects in childhood. The center includes cardiologists who specialize in heart rhythm abnormalities and features a state-of-the art cardiac catheterization lab where interventional cardiologists perform minimally-invasive procedures to close cardiac defects, open blocked valves, open narrow blood vessels and create passages when needed.

Heart surgery for both children and adults with congenital heart disease is provided in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic. The two health systems entered into a collaborative agreement in 2015 to strengthen research and quality initiatives, improve operational efficiencies, and enhance opportunities in the areas of medical education and physician recruitment.

In addition to its main campus in downtown Akron, Akron Children’s cardiologists also see patients in the following Northeast Ohio locations: Beachwood, Boardman, Canton, Cleveland, Concord, Mansfield, Middleburg Heights, Norwalk, Warren, Wooster and Sharon, PA.
