Akron Children's to offer rehab services in Warren October 10

10-03-2016 (Mahoning Valley, Ohio )

Akron Children’s Hospital will offer rehabilitative services in Warren, beginning Oct. 10.

Akron Children’s will provide pediatric-focused physical, occupational and speech therapists, and audiologists available Monday through Friday at its new office at 5000 East Market Street. Physical therapists focused on helping young athletes prevent and recover from sports-related injuries will also be available at this site.

“Our goal has always been to bring quality healthcare closer to home for our patient families – and offering rehabilitation services in Warren helps us do just that,” said Mary Marino, director of Rehabilitative Services for Akron Children’s. “Now patient families in Warren will no longer have to travel to one of our main hospital campuses to receive rehabilitation therapy. Plus, the office is located next to our Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics (ACHP), urgent care and pediatric subspecialties making it convenient for patient families to have a variety of services all nearby.”

Through rehabilitation services, Akron Children’s therapists work with infants, children and teens who require therapy following an illness or injury, or to manage the effects of a chronic condition, such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida or an autism spectrum disorder.

“Our therapists work with patients from every department in the hospital and cover the full spectrum of therapy needs, from newborns with feeding disorders and toddlers with developmental delays or orthopedic issues to children with learning problems. We also provide treatment and therapy for teens, especially those who may have sports-related injuries.” said Marino. “The staff at this office can provide the initial evaluation with a physician’s order, as well as provide the ongoing therapy sessions.”
