Akron Children's names VP-general counsel

Anthea Daniels has joined Akron Children’s Hospital as vice president and general counsel. In this new role, she will be responsible for compliance and risk management as well as overseeing the legal affairs for the entire Akron Children's system.

Daniels had been an equity shareholder and member of the health law department at the law firm of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, since 2015.

Among law firms, the Baker Ober Health Law Group has the third largest health law department in the country. Daniels counseled charitable and for-profit health care systems and hospitals on an array of health law related topics, including joint ventures and affiliations, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, telehealth, fraud and abuse, board governance, corporate compliance, managed care contracts and issues related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act known as HIPAA. Prior to that, Daniels spent more than two decades with the Cleveland law firm Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP as an equity partner.

Daniels, who earned her law degree from Case Western Reserve University, is active in several national health care legal associations and Northeast Ohio nonprofit organizations. In 2006, she served as president of the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA), the largest trade association of health lawyers in the country. She also chaired AHLA's Women's Leadership Council and chaired its annual program in Chicago entitled, "Fundamentals of Health Law," for numerous years.  

She was the president of the northeast Ohio chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, and chaired the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Health Law Committee. An avid writer and national speaker on health law topics, she is a graduate of Leadership Cleveland and has served on numerous charitable boards.

Daniels resides in Bainbridge with her family.
