Akron Children's again saluted as a Plain Dealer Top Workplace

05-31-2017 (Akron, Mahoning Valley, Ohio )

The Cleveland Plain Dealer has selected Akron Children’s Hospital as one of the Top Workplaces in Northeast Ohio for the third year in a row. The Top Workplaces lists are based entirely on the results of an employee feedback survey administered by WorkplaceDynamics, LLC, a leading research firm specializing in organizational health and workplace improvement. Several aspects of workplace culture were measured, including alignment, execution and connection.

Of the 2,545 Akron Children’s employees who received the Workplace Dynamics 2017 survey, 1,716 (67 percent) completed the questionnaire.

Walt Schwoeble, vice president for human resources, said this honor reflects the engagement the hospital’s employees have with the care they deliver every day. “Their support of Akron Children’s mission and our vision for the future is unwavering,” he said.

Noting that Children’s welcomed 930 new employees in 2016, Schwoeble said, “Our leadership team truly appreciates our employees for the amazing work they do as the hospital grows and changes. We’re humbled by the fact that their passion for Children’s has led to this recognition 3 years in a row.

“It’s also gratifying to know they find Akron Children’s to be a place where they are respected and rewarded – and where they can continue to pursue their careers while making an impact on the lives of others.”

“The Top Workplaces award is not a popularity contest,” said Doug Claffey, CEO of WorkplaceDynamics. “To be a Top Workplace, organizations must meet our strict standards for organizational health. And who better to ask about work life than the people who live the culture every day—the employees.

Claffey added that WorkplaceDynamics’ research has shown that what’s most important to employees is a strong belief in where the organization is headed, how it’s going to get there, and the feeling that everyone is in it together. “Without this sense of connection, an organization doesn’t have a shot at being named a Top Workplace,” he said.

The Plain Dealer published the complete list of Top Workplaces on June 18. For more information about the Top Workplaces lists and Workplace Dynamics, please visit www.topworkplaces.com and www.workplacedynamics.com.
