Akron Children’s Hospital implements Healthy Roster app for student athletes

03-01-2021 (Akron, Ohio )

Akron Children’s Hospital Sports Medicine department’s recent introduction of the Healthy Roster app is helping to improve communication among an injured athlete’s parents, coaches, athletic trainer and physicians.

Akron Children’s supports local student-athletes by providing certified athletic training services at 25 area high schools. With Healthy Roster, a HIPAA-compliant and secure mobile injury documentation tool with live chat and video features, Akron Children’s athletic trainers can streamline injury tracking and an athlete’s return-to-play status. If an injury occurs when the athletic trainer is not at the school, the athlete or parent can contact the trainer through the app.

“Healthy Roster enhances our team approach to helping student-athletes overcome injury and return to the sports they love,” said Joseph Congeni, M.D., director of Akron Children’s Hospital Sports Medicine. “Through the Healthy Roster app, parents and coaches have 24/7 access to an athlete’s initial injury assessment, details on any follow-up care that is needed and updates on when the athlete can safely return to sports.”

The app, which is free to parents, is being implemented at these high schools where Akron Children’s provides athletic training services:

  • Akron Public Schools: Buchtel, North, East, Ellet, Firestone, Kenmore-Garfield

"As an Ohio-based company ourselves, we're excited to be able to help leading health systems within our own community accelerate and simplify their sports medicine practices,” said Dan Fronczak, president and co-founder of Healthy Roster, based in Columbus. “Our telehealth and sports medicine platform is only as valuable as the providers using it – and they don't come much better than Dr. Congeni and his team. We're excited to enable their athletic trainers, parents and physicians to more easily communicate and provide better care for injured athletes."

The Healthy Roster app is available for download on Apple and Android devices. Akron Children’s athletic trainers are emailing athletes’ parents to sign up for Healthy Roster. School districts interested in more information about Akron Children’s use of Healthy Roster can contact Shay Mulford at 330-543-8463.
