Akron Children’s Hospital adds pediatric cardiology to New Philadelphia Health Center

10-06-2020 (Akron, Ohio)

Pediatric cardiology is now a featured specialty at Akron Children’s Hospital’s New Philadelphia Health Center.

Appointments are available the second and fourth Tuesdays each month through December with Dr. John Bockoven. In 2021, Dr. Jessica Bivens will take over and hold clinics the second and fourth Mondays of the month.

Patients can receive services such as evaluations for murmur, chest pain, palpitations, congenital heart disease and dizziness/syncope. Electrocardiograms, echocardiograms and home rhythm monitoring services are also available.

The Health Center is located at 1045 W. High Ave. For an appointment, call the Akron Children’s Heart Center at 330-543-8521.

Cardiology is the latest addition to the New Philadelphia Health Center. The site also includes Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics and rehabilitation (physical, occupational and speech therapy).

Akron Children’s Hospital is committed to serving patients in a clean and safe environment. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the hospital has redoubled its efforts to provide a safe environment for families and employees, closely following the governor’s and CDC guidelines.

At all of its sites, Akron Children’s is:

  • Limiting entry points.
  • Practicing social/physical distancing.
  • Continually educating and retraining caregivers on personal protective equipment and hand hygiene.
  • Cleaning common areas frequently.
  • Installing more hand sanitizer dispensers.
  • Decreasing the number of visitors.
  • Giving surgical masks to all Akron Children’s employees working on-site.
  • Asking everyone visiting an Akron Children’s facility to wear masks or face coverings, except for kids under 2 or those with sensory issues. Masks are provided for visitors who do not bring their own.
