Akron Children’s’s emergency department located on the Beeghly campus in Boardman has been selected as a recipient of the Emergency Nurses Association’s 2019 Lantern Award for demonstrating exceptional and innovative performance in leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research.

“The Lantern Award showcases our emergency department’s accomplishments in incorporating evidence-based practice and innovation into emergency care,” said Christine Young, Akron Children’s Chief Nursing Officer.  “This recognition is a tribute to their hard work and commitment to excellence.”

The award – named in honor of Florence Nightingale, who famously worked to improve and change nursing care in the 19th century – recognizes emergency departments that demonstrate excellent practice and innovative performance through leadership, education, advocacy and research. EDs are encouraged to share their stories which highlight their commitment to care of patients, as well as the well-being of nursing staff.

Akron Children’s Lantern Award will be on display in the emergency department. As a recipient, Akron Children’s will be recognized in upcoming ENA publications, on the ENA website and at Emergency Nursing 2019, the association’s annual conference, in Austin, Texas.
