Anjay Khandelwal, M.D., has joined Akron Children’s Hospital as a surgeon specializing in acute/reconstructive burn surgery and surgical critical care in the hospital’s Paul and Carol David Foundation Burn Institute.
As a former staff surgeon in the division of trauma, critical care, acute care surgery and burns at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Dr. Khandelwal was the director of the Burn Care Center and co-director of the Institute of Burn Ethics.
He was an assistant professor of surgery and bioethics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland.
Dr. Khandelwal earned his medical degree from Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College in Karnataka, India. He finished his general surgery residency at Temple University/Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He completed a fellowship in surgical critical care at the University of North Carolina/UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and a burn/burn reconstruction fellowship at the University of Washington/Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Dr. Khandelwal is active in burn education and international outreach, and also founded India’s first and only recreational camp for burned children.
Dr. Khandelwal resides in Lakewood with his wife, Dr. Cathleen Khandelwal, and two daughters.
