Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics and Locust Pediatric Care Group receive Patient-Centered Medical Home recognition

11-02-2018 (Akron, Ohio )

The 27 offices of Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics, along with the Locust Pediatric Care Group, have been awarded recognition by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) program.

PCMH standards emphasize the use of systematic, patient-centered, coordinated care that supports access, communication and patient involvement.

“Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics and Locust Pediatric Care Group are dedicated to providing complete, consistent medical care that meets the unique needs of each patient and family,” said Karen Sullivan, senior operations manager for Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics. “This journey toward PCMH recognition has helped us improve quality and access to care, enhance communication between care teams and families, and empower families to take a more active role in their children’s health care.”

Improvements implemented during the PCMH process are taking Akron Children’s pediatric primary care to a new level.

“We’re helping with aspects of patients’ lives beyond primary care medicine, from food insecurity to a safe home environment to care coordination for kids with high-risk conditions,” Sullivan said. “The bottom line we’re all focused on: keeping our kids healthy.”

NCQA is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. Its PCMH program reflects the input of the American College of Physicians, American Academy of Family Physicians, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Osteopathic Association and others. The program was developed to assess whether clinician practices are functioning as medical homes and recognize them for these efforts.

“NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home Recognition raises the bar in defining high-quality care by emphasizing access, health information technology and coordinated care focused on patients,” said NCQA President Margaret E. O’Kane. “Recognition shows that Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics and the Locust Pediatric Care Group have the tools, systems and resources to provide their patients with the right care, at the right time.”
