Special Instructions:
Collect one nasopharyngeal (NP) flocked swab in M4 transport media. Flocked swabs are preferred. Sterile dacron or rayon swabs with plastic or flexible metal handles may also be used. Do NOT use cotton or calcium alginate swabs or swabs with wooden sticks. These samples will be rejected. Store and transport specimens at 2-8 degrees Celsius for up to 72 hours after collection. – NOTE: The performance of the assay was established using NP swab samples. Oropharyngeal swabs, anterior nasal swabs, mid turbinate nasal swabs, nasal aspirates, nasal washes and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid specimens are also considered acceptable specimen types for use. CDC-VTM, or sterile phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) are acceptable to use as viral transport media.
