Influenza Isolation

Specimen dry, not in proper M4M, not refrigerated, not in sterile container, fixed in preservative, QNS

Spin-amplified svc, 48 hr incubation and IFA stain with virus-specific monoclonal antibody
Special Instructions:
NOTE: This test is included with all Respiratory Virus Isolation orders. Specimens in M4 must be sent on ice ASAP to lab. Positive results called. Final report issued at 72 hrs. Failure to isolate virus in culture does not rule out respiratory viral infection. This method does not detect any other viruses except Influenza A and B. A negative test does not rule out viral etiology. For Outpatients, test should only be drawn in outpatient locations within a Hospital (Akron or Beeghly).
