The American College of Surgeons (ACS) has renewed Akron Children’s verification as a Level 1 Children’s Surgery Center through its Children’s Surgery Verification Quality Improvement Program (ACS CSV). The renewal extends the verification through 2028.
Akron Children’s first earned this distinction in 2022, becoming the first hospital in northeast Ohio to achieve it. Level 1 is the highest level of verification offered by ACS, reserved for hospitals that demonstrate the staffing, training, facilities, protocols and outcomes needed to care for children requiring surgery – from routine procedures to the most complex cases.

“This renewal is a testament to the dedication of our entire surgical team and everyone across Akron Children’s who put kids first every single day,” said Dr. Tsulee Chen, chair of the Department of Surgery and the Bruce F. Rothmann, M.D., Endowed Chair in Pediatric Surgery. “Families in our community can feel confident that when their child needs surgery, best- in-class care is right here at home.”
