1. For some families, masking and hand hygiene have always been the routine to protect their medically fragile children. Maverick Jones’ family is just one example, as they carefully protect their youngest member, who was born with a congenital heart defect.

Thanks to staff like Dr. Laura Markley, we continue to make our hospital as safe as possible for our patient families, volunteers, and fellow employees.

When Ahmad Amiri, 18, found out he tested positive for COVID-19, he immediately recognized that his status as a post-kidney transplant patient made him high risk for complications from the virus.
4. Even before receiving a brain cancer diagnosis, 10-year-old Carson Thatcher loved wearing hats. He started Hats of Hope and has donated hundreds of hats to other kids who are fighting cancer at Akron Children’s to help lift their spirits.
5. As we kicked off 2021, our EVS staff is received the COVID-19 vaccine to protect them as they continue to protect our patient families and employees with their hard work.

Our Environmental Services (EVS) staff has worked tirelessly in 2020 to help keep our facilities safe and clean. We are thankful for such a wonderful team!
6. Baby Bryson is only 4 months old, but for those 4 months, Bryson has helped his dad, Tommy, cheer for the Cleveland Browns.

The Browns’ winning season has given Bryson extra games to snuggle up with dad and root for Baker Mayfield and Myles Garrett.
7. Behind the masks, employees from our Beeghly campus in the Mahoning Valley smiled as they received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
8. With fans as cute as this little guy rooting for our Buckeyes, we hoped the team would be in good hands. Throwing it back to when our patient, Samuel, wore his love for the buckeyes on his sleeve and on his helmet.

Although it didn’t work out for the Buckeyes, we’re still proud of them, and of all of those little Buckeyes like Samuel.
9. Katina Edwards rang the bell to celebrate the end of her chemotherapy for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Katina and her mom, Ashanti, were happy they were able to share the moment with so many of the nurses and doctors that cared for them during Katina’s stay.
