1. Recently, blue has become the signal for support for our frontline staff as we face #COVID19 and call on these heroes. The campus has been lit up blue this month in honor of them.

Emma is an English Goldendoodle who loves peanut butter. She joined the Doggie Brigade sponsored by Milk-Bone in 2017 along with her handler, Amy Bennett.
3. When you donate special, edible treats, we feel so special and appreciated. Thank you to everyone who has helped feed our front-line caregivers and essential staff throughout the last 6 weeks.

We received a visit from Swensons Drive-In Restaurants, an Akron tradition! Over 2 shifts, they generously served about 500 meals.
4. Clinical and lab employees have been preparing to wear N95 masks by shaving off their beards and goatees to create a good seal. We appreciate their willingness to part ways and are certain the new look will grow on them.

Dr. Kerwyn Jones, pediatric orthopedic surgeon, has been told his new look makes him look like “a young buck.”
5. We are proud of our medical laboratory professionals and pathologists who play a vital role in health care and patient advocacy every day and especially during the #COVID-19 pandemic.
6. Dr. Jessica Foster, our director of developmental and behavioral pediatrics, shows an example of an easy, DIY household chart of daily family activities – meals, homework, playtime, etc. – to help families with scheduling these activities during these uncertain times.

The scheduling tool Dr. Foster is holding up is available to print and for free personal use from Teaching Mama.
7. What were you doing 20 years ago? This was the day Nikki (Johnson) Myers got a second chance at life with a bone marrow transplant. She was battling acute myeloid leukemia (AML) for the second time.

Dr. Mohammad Ali Talaizadeh (in the top picture, aka “Dr. Talai”) was Nikki’s primary hematology-oncologist. Dr. Jeffrey Hord (bottom photo) visits with Nikki and her sons last year.
8. In 2019, our more than 1,600 volunteers donated more than 29,000 hours of their selfless time at our Akron and Beeghly campuses. As we celebrate National Volunteers Week, we look forward to their safe return following the COVID-19 pandemic.
9. We are proud of our team for modeling the way. #SocialDistancing. Thanks to Governor Mike DeWine for the shout out!

Governor DeWine commented, “Check out this great example of #SocialDistancing! We recently received this photo from a pediatric emergency medicine physician at Akron Children’s Hospital. Thanks to all of the frontline workers at Akron Children’s who continue to care for #Ohio’s kids during the #COVID19 pandemic!”
