1. It was very holly jolly in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit! Santa visited all 73 babies and their families and added them to his “nice list” for their first Christmas.
2. 10-year-old Addison Tolley, who is battling leukemia, requested birthday cards from anyone and everyone this year, and wanted to get a card from each of the 50 states.

3. The Loose Knit Group of Mahoning Valley got creative and made festive tops for our tiniest patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and our Beeghly campus’ Special Care Nursery.
4. The man with the bag, along with Mrs. Claus, rode in our Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) to bring holiday cheer to all the children spending the holidays at the hospital.

Savanna Wylie, 8, of Waterville, had been awake since 5:30 a.m. singing Christmas carols when she heard Santa was on his way to her room.
6. In April, we introduced you to Jessica Culbert of Oklahoma. She was pregnant and desperate for medical treatment to fix a defect in her heart’s electrical circuitry that caused an abnormally fast heartbeat.

Jessica’s procedure was a success, and she gave birth about 6 months later to a healthy baby boy, Taylor John Culbert.
7. During her junior year, Zoey’s world was rocked by the diagnosis of idiopathic #scoliosis and a need for spine surgery that would put her on the bench.

When Zoey went to the doctor to have a bump on her back looked at, she never expected the results she received. One glance at her x-ray, and it was clear that her spine needed help.
8. As 2019 comes to a close, we reflect on this year’s retirement of Dr. Jeff Kempf and his legacy of 30 years of compassion to children in our Akron ER and NPH Haiti St. Damien Pediatric Hospital.

It was because of Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, that Dr. Kempf was able to develop a transformative program to bring health care and support services to children in need throughout the world.
