Just as her all-time favorite TV show, “Friends,” promises: Dr. Jenny White will be there for you, especially kids. She not only fights for their health here as Akron Children’s newest pediatrician, but she also has gone on mission trips to Honduras, Dominican Republic and Peru to care for kids in need around the globe. Seeing children desperate for medical treatment for a variety of illnesses — from allergies to parasitic infections — made the decision easy to go into medicine to help and mentor (and befriend) little boys and girls everywhere.
Why did you want to become a doctor?
I have always thought I wanted to be a doctor. I’ve had the opportunity to go on several mission trips and seeing the great need in the places I visited helped me decide that being a doctor is how I want to help and give back.
The trips to Honduras I went on in college helped me to appreciate the lack of resources in that area and the lack of access to medical care. I got to spend time in a clinic there and see the great joy and appreciation expressed from providing things like Tylenol, antibiotics or Band-Aids that we don’t think twice about here.
