Mike shares a little more about his hobbies, life outside the hospital, and what he’s looking forward to about working here.
What are you looking forward to in your new role and what do you think some of the challenges will be?
I’m looking forward to a progressive leadership team, an aggressive culture of growth/expansion and having the resources to pursue opportunities. My greatest challenge is likely the learning curve I’ll need to climb in moving to the pediatric side of health care.
Tell us about your family?
I’ve been married to my wife, Anne, for 30+ years and we have 2 adult children – our youngest is finishing the Physician Assistant (PA) program at Mount Union and my oldest son is a mechanical engineer for Johnson Electric in Dayton.
What hobby would you pursue if time and money weren’t an issue?
We love to hike and explore national parks. I would do more epic hiking adventures if time wasn’t a restriction.
How do you relax?
I’ve been playing guitar for most of my adult life and this is how I unwind in times of stress.
Favorite place or most interesting place you’ve traveled?
We’ve had several trips to the Sierra Nevada, especially Yosemite National Park.
Last DIY project and how did it turn out?
We finished the basement of our new house over the winter and created a place for our kids to escape to watch TV and play pool when they visit.
What was your first paying job? What are some lessons you took from it?
I did exterior painting prep work in the suburbs of Pittsburgh. I learned how to hang on to a ladder while scraping/sanding without appropriate safety gear and the importance of preparation for a quality outcome.
What is your greatest extravagance?
I have acquired some nice guitars/equipment over the years.
If you could make a rule everyone had to live by what would it be?
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done?
Climbed the Via Ferrata in West Virginia (a permanently installed system of steel rungs and cables that allows you to climb up and over two towering rock fins).
Favorite quote or mantra you live by?
Wag more, bark less.
Last TV show you binge watched or can’t miss?
Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know.
I’ve been a patient on a life flight helicopter transport.
