My 9-year-old twins, Cooper and Lexi
An accident happened Monday, July 9, about 11:16 a.m., while my husband, son, his girlfriend and I were about to board a plane in Cleveland.
My 9-year-old son, Cooper, fell from a 2nd story balcony at his grandmother’s house in Stark County. Cooper and his twin sister Lexi were staying there that week and then planning to meet all the family in Hilton Head. We live in Jupiter, Fla.
My mom rushed Cooper to the ER in Canton. We put my son and his girlfriend on the plane and took an Uber to Canton.
We found out Cooper and his sister were on the porch – which they weren’t supposed to be. It’s always locked, but they found the key. They wanted to send me a picture. Cooper leaned back against the railing. It gave way so he fell backwards to the ground – about 12-14 feet. He was extremely lucky that he only broke his wrists.

Cooper stands below the balcony he fell off.
The hospital sent us to Akron Children’s for surgery. Dr. (Mark) Adamczyk put a pin in each wrist and then casted in a non-waterproof cast. Cooper chose a pink and a blue cast for he and his sister! He should get the pins out in 4 weeks.
We are currently on our way to Hilton Head, after all, to see our extended family. Cooper is doing pretty well, however, he’s in some pain. It’s been an adjustment as he can’t really do anything with his hands, get dressed, eat, go to the bathroom, etc.

Cooper wanted to stay another night because he felt like a prince, like royalty!
He had an amazing time at Akron Children’s. The doctors and nurses were very attentive to our needs and were wonderful. I would recommend this hospital to anyone!
This is definitely a summer our family will never forget!

We made it to Hilton Head, and Cooper can still cool off in the pool.
