When Akron Children’s pediatrician Dr. Nicole Giles talks with patients about leading a healthy lifestyle, she not only talks the talk, she walks the walk, too. From starting her day with a healthy breakfast and workout to spending time with her family, Dr. Giles knows and promotes the importance of mental and physical well-being. As a pediatrician at Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics offices, Dr. Giles provides wellness exams and screenings for infants, children and teens, as well as diagnosis and management of health conditions, injuries and illnesses.
Q: What do you eat for breakfast?
A: My typical breakfast on a work day is a hardboiled egg, homemade whole wheat blueberry muffin and coffee. But, my all-time favorite breakfast is French toast, bacon and fresh fruit!
Q: When you curl up on the couch to watch a movie, are you most likely to have a bowl of popcorn, chocolate or box of tissues?
A: While I’m usually one to always pick chocolate, I usually go for a bowl of popcorn when watching a movie. Homemade caramel popcorn is my favorite.
Q: What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
A: Work out! I love starting my day with a good work out. It’s refreshing, wakes me up and gets me focused for the day.
Q: What is the last thing you do before you go to sleep?
A: Lately I’ve been trying to read more books for fun so I try to get through a few chapters before falling asleep.

Q: Do you dunk your Oreos in milk, lick off the icing, eat them as they are or avoid them altogether?
A: Dunk them in milk, most definitely! The mint Oreos are my favorite!
Q: Where did you grow up?
A: Wausau in central Wisconsin. When I think of growing up in WI, I’m reminded of summer afternoons with my family swimming in the lake, playing yard games and making s’mores over the fire.
Q: Who makes up your family, including pets and their names?
A: My husband, Chad, our 16-month-old daughter, Amelia, and Golden Retriever, Charlie. One of our favorite activities is exploring the hiking trails in Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Q: What did you want to be (profession) when you were little?
A: A school bus driver or a teacher. I always liked going to school when I was little and it just seemed like a good fit.
Q: What’s your favorite food? Who makes it best?
A: I love chicken cordon bleu. It was always my special birthday dinner request when I was growing up, and it’s always made best by my mom!
Q: Do you have any hidden talents or something people may not know about you?
A: I took piano lessons growing up. I don’t have a piano now, but I still really enjoying playing, especially Christmas music.
Q: Something you’ve always wanted to do and still want to do it?
A: I’ve always wanted to travel to Africa, specifically go on a safari and hike Mount Kilimanjaro!
