Dr. Ehrenberg Buchner and her husband stop for a photo while hiking in Spain.
The ocean brings Dr. Stacey Ehrenberg Buchner great joy – from dipping her toes in the sand to making waves on a jet ski or just watching the tide roll in. Away from the ocean, she’s happiest as a maternal-fetal medicine specialist at Akron Children’s Hospital where she helps high-risk moms deliver healthy babies or care for fetuses who may be at risk for genetic disorders or congenital defects.
Q: Why did you want to become a doctor?
A: When I was 3 years old, I had surgery and was hospitalized for a while. To this day, I remember the compassion and encouragement I received from all of those who were involved in my care. Even at a young age, the experience inspired me to strive to help others.
Q: If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
A: I would live anywhere I could see the ocean from my house. I love the sound, smell and beauty of the ocean. I love anything revolving around water – swimming, boating, jet skiing and water skiing to name a few.

Dr. Ehrenberg Buchner’s kids (ages 11, 8 and 5) enjoy the beach, too.
Q: When you curl up on the couch to watch a movie, are you most likely to have a bowl of popcorn, chocolate or box of tissues?
A: Do I have to choose one? My brother introduced me to my favorite movie treat, popcorn with peanut M&Ms mixed in. Delicious!
Q: What piece of advice did someone give you when you were young that still resonates with you today?
A: Never give up on your dreams. And, The woman who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.
Q: Where did you grow up?
A: Right here in Akron, Ohio!
Q: What’s your favorite TV show?
A: My favorite TV show of all-time is Friends. I could watch re-runs forever.
Q: What couldn’t you live without?
A: My family….and chocolate and coffee. 🙂

Dr. Ehrenberg Buchner enjoys a cup of coffee with her husband in Spain.
Q: What was your first concert?
A: I saw the Dave Matthews Band when I was in high school at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls. Coincidentally, the most recent concert I’ve attended this summer was the Dave Matthews Band at Blossom!
Q: Something you’ve always wanted to do and still want to do it?
A: I’ve always wanted to travel the world. While I’ve been to many places, there are still so many that I’d like to see. To date, my favorite international cities are Cinque Terre, Italy, and Barcelona, Spain. They’re both beautiful and right by the water. My favorite place to go in the U.S. is Lake Tahoe, Nev. No matter what time of year you go, it’s beautiful and offers lots of fun outdoor activities. My family enjoys horseback riding, hiking, skiing, whitewater rafting and biking when we visit.
Whether near or far, I love experiencing different cultures with my family. Most of all, I love watching my children experience the world and seeing the excitement in their eyes when we take them to new places.

Family time on the ski slopes.
