Community Conversation for Youth about Addiction

The Addiction Services Program (ASP) is hosting a Community Conversation for youth to discuss addiction in a way that is meaningful for them. The conversation will be coupled with the On the Table conversations happening around Akron on October 3, 2019 at the Bounce Hub Innovation Center from 5:30 pm until 9 pm. Middle and high school students are invited to engage in separate discussions about addiction to help inform Akron Children’s Hospital and our community partners about ways to support youth, from their perspective. For their participation, the students will be rewarded with a free 1-hour Esports gaming experience immediately following the conversation, 1 community service hour as well as refreshments. Parents will be able to hear a lecture by Dr. Goldman, Pediatrician and Addiction Medicine Physician on the neurobiology of Addiction as it relates to adolescent brain development. It is not necessary for youth to be in recovery or in treatment for a substance use disorder to participate. This program is generously sponsored by the Corbin Foundation. There will also be representation from various community partners and resource tables available during the event.
