Akron Children’s Hospital Community Outreach in Boardman provides safety and support services for children and families throughout the Mahoning Valley. Our goal is to help keep children healthy and safe so all they have to worry about is just being a kid.
Our community outreach programs include:
Adopt-a-School, donating school supplies, hygiene products and offering educational programming throughout the year.
Child Passenger Safety (CPS), providing CPS education and car seats to income-eligible families, as well as offer seat checks and installations.
Injury Prevention, offering educational programs to families and community members, and providing safety products at a reduced cost. We also advocate for effective laws that impact child safety.
Reach Out and Read®, our pediatric offices offer new, age-appropriate books to children 6 months to 5 years old during well visits.
Safe Kids® Mahoning Valley, working with local health and social service agencies, police and fire departments to promote and implement strategies to prevent childhood injuries through community awareness, education and public policy changes.
Safe Sitter®, teaching future babysitters ages 11-13 years about safe practices in child care, first aid and rescue skills. Cost is $30.
Safe Sleep®, advocating for safe sleep practices and, in collaboration with community agencies, providing portable cribs at discounted rates to high-risk families.
We also offer Teen Outreach, career awareness programs, and health and safety fairs.
