At Akron Children's, parents and legal guardians are part of the healthcare team. As such, adult family members and friends may visit patients 24 hours a day at both our downtown Akron hospital and Mahoning Valley hospital (Beeghly campus). One parent or another adult, authorized by the parent or guardian, may stay overnight at a patient’s bedside.
Children and teens under 18 years of age may visit patients from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Children under 14 may visit in the patient’s room only, and must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
We ask that you limit bedside visitors to three at a time.
Our special care units – including the burn center, psychiatric unit, and neonatal and pediatric intensive care units – have special visiting hours.
For the protection of our patients, do not visit if you are sick or have been exposed to a contagious disease such as chickenpox, mumps or measles.
Perfume and scented products can cause breathing problems and allergic reactions in some of Akron Children’s patients and staff. Please do not wear these products when visiting.
Parents and visitors must have and wear a pass. These passes are color-coded by floor and valid for one calendar day. Weekly passes are also available.
At our downtown Akron hospital, passes are issued at the information desks from 5 a.m.- 9 p.m., 7 days a week. When the desks are closed, a security officer will let you in the hospital and give you a visitor’s pass.
At our Mahoning Valley hospital at the Beeghly campus in Boardman, passes are issued at the Building D visitor desk, 8 a.m. -7 p.m., and the Building B visitor desk, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. When the desks are closed, a member of the nursing staff will let you in the hospital and give you a visitor’s pass. If you are staying overnight, you can get a pass from the nursing unit staff.
Inform your child’s nurse if you see someone on the floor without a visitor’s pass or a hospital I.D. badge.
We rely on your generosity to provide quality medical care to every child who needs us.
