What Are Tics?

Tics are relatively sudden, brief and repetitive movements. They are classified as simple tics and complex tics. Simple tics can be motor tics such as movements of the muscles, like blinking, head shaking, jerking of the arms, and shrugging or vocal tics are sounds such as throat clearing, grunting, and humming.

Complex tics consist of distinct and coordinated movements resembling normal and purposeful acts or gestures.
