Summer Pediatric Research Scholars

Summer Scholars

Akron Children's Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute offers college students opportunities to gain experience in clinical and quality improvement research in northeast Ohio’s largest pediatric hospital.

Summer scholars work closely with mentors (physicians or other healthcare practitioners) in one of several pediatric medical specialties. Mentors help scholars define the project that will become the focus of their summer research efforts.

Research professionals from the research institute offer additional training, guidance and support.

Research projects may focus on:

Summer scholars also have opportunities to observe bedside patient care by shadowing medical and surgical teams interacting with patients and colleagues. Lectures and classroom activities will provide additional familiarity with the environment of a large pediatric hospital.

At the program’s conclusion, summer scholars present their research findings to the medical staff members, researchers, invited guests and their peers.

A stipend towards college scholarships or tuition is awarded on behalf of participating students. Prior research experience is not required.
