Overview

Skeletal Dysplasia - Overview

Our center is staffed by orthopedic surgeons, geneticists, genetic counselors, nurses and a registered dietitian, who all have special training in diagnosing and treating Little People.

Our skeletal dysplasia team comes from a variety of healthcare areas and provides diagnostic and therapeutic services that include:

  • genetic counseling
  • pediatric and adult spine surgery
  • ear, nose and throat medical and surgical care
  • pediatric and adult neurology and neurosurgery
  • medical and surgical care of the eyes
  • urology
  • cardiology
  • endocrinology
  • hand surgery
  • nephrology
  • joint surgery
  • pulmonary medicine
  • gastroenterology
  • physical and occupational therapy
  • speech and hearing
  • social services
  • dietary services
  • orthotics (bracing)

Genetic counseling is an important component of our center. When recessive genes are involved, parents of average stature are often surprised to learn their baby or child has a form of skeletal dysplasia. Depending on the genetic disorder, some siblings may be affected while others are not.

Our center was made possible through a generous donation from the Women's Board of Children's Hospital.
