Akron Children’s Hospital’s Simulation Center for Safety and Reliability focuses on improving technical expertise, strengthening multidisciplinary teamwork and enhancing communication among physicians, nurses, paramedics and other healthcare providers.
Whether you’re performing surgery, or resuscitating a patient in an intensive care unit, doctors and healthcare providers must perform multiple complex tasks. We use high-tech mannequins to re-enact physiological responses healthcare providers may experience with their patients to prepare them to perform successfully in real clinical settings.
Our equipment includes simulators from preemies to toddlers to adolescents and adults, as well as an ultrasound system, respiratory equipment, a lung simulator and a video-assisted laryngoscope, among other equipment.
Simulations include multiple skill training scenarios and debriefing consultations. We also offer In Situ training to prep physicians in their familiar environments, such as the emergency department and intensive care units.
The purpose of our simulation center is to recreate reality to educate healthcare providers on core competencies and communications as well as teamwork in high-risk situations, education and training, and safety and reliability.
Simulation allows physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers to practice these skills in a safe environment - posing no risk to human life - to improve the quality and safety of patient care.
The interactive learning environment enables healthcare providers to think critically and strengthen problem-solving skills, refine technique and procedures, familiarize themselves with the equipment, and ultimately, apply these skills to real-world scenarios.
Simulation can also be beneficial for research programs, and for testing new equipment and processes.
We rely on your generosity to provide quality medical care to every child who needs us.
