The Estelle F. Kaufman Sick Child Care Center at Akron Children’s Hospital provides a quiet, safe place for mildly ill children ages newborn through 16 to stay while their parents are working.
The center has 22 beds, including 10 cribs, two isolation rooms and a convenient, sheltered drop-off point for patients using the center. The center also has trained pediatric caregivers; strict infection control; TV, games and meals for patients; written reports of your child’s day; and an on-call registered nurse and resident doctor.
Parents are free to call or visit children anytime during their stay.
Our center cares for children with moderate childhood illnesses such as:
Children are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. This program is not designed to meet the needs of children with chronic illnesses who may require more specialized care.
Parents receive a written report of the child’s day. Medications brought from home are given by a registered nurse, who also assesses each child’s condition and contacts a parent if necessary.
To make reservations for your child’s stay, call 330-543-4000, 24 hours a day.
During your first visit to the center, allow at least 15 minutes to complete registration forms (including permission to use Akron Children’s ER if necessary). A parent or legal guardian must drop-off the child and complete the registration forms.
