2013-05-20 13:47:11 by Andrea Joliet, Assistant Director, Interactive Marketing & PR, as posted on the inside.akronchildrens.org blog.

Each year more than 250 children and adults are admitted to Akron Children’s Hospital for severe burn injuries. And while the number of admissions varies somewhat, the types of burn injuries don’t.

The top 5 categories of burn admissions are:

1. Fire/flame

2. Scald

3. Contact

4. Road rash/friction

5. Chemical

In recognition of National Burn Awareness Week, Feb. 6-12, the educators for the Akron Children’s Hospital Paul and Carol David Foundation Burn Institute want to share these prevention and treatment resources with you:

Household safety: Preventing burns, shocks and fires

Burns: Common causes, types and treatment
