My 3-year-old daughter, Trista Rowe, had the best possible experience at Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. Thanks to all the great employees and doctors who helped prepare her to get caps placed on her teeth and some dental work completed.
Wendy was friendly and greeted me at sign-in and immediately called me over to sign the needed papers. She then called Trista over to give her a pretty “bracelet.” She really made Trista feel special and important.
Joe, the volunteer who was seated in the waiting room area, immediately acknowledged Trista and my husband upon our arrival and let her choose a toy to keep. She chose a stuffed Dalmatian dog and Joe helped her name him Spot.
Nurse Cathy called us back and started a friendly conversation with Trista right away. She invited Trista to stop and look at the big Cinderella on the wall and then asked Trista which window would be Trista’s room in Cinderella’s Castle.
Korie, the child life specialist, is awesome at her job. She is very positive and upbeat. Korie provided a friendly experience and was very patient and kind with Trista as she explained things to her.
Korie also kept Trista entertained while Dr. Dayal, the anesthesiologist, talked with my husband and me about what he was going to do. He was very kind and willing to answer any questions.
Dr. Melissa Padgett also was able to speak to us at this time and as always we are very pleased with her professionalism and work. Nurse Mary was also very professional and told us that she would be Trista’s nurse in surgery.
Nurse Cindy was taking care of Trista in recovery and was very kind to her. Cindy would rub Trista’s head in a kind, gentle and reassuring way. Nurse Karen took over for Cindy shortly after we arrived in the recovery room. She was very professional, pleasant and kind.
Although Trista was tired and a little cranky after surgery (that is to be expected) we feel that the experience could not have been any better than it was.
The Surgical Services Team really worked together as a team and provided excellent and quality care to our little girl!
