You might see Amanda Crago volunteering in the outpatient lab or radiology department. Or you might find her using her bachelor’s degree in Spanish to translate vital information to Spanish speaking families.
“Basically, I do all the little things that everyone might not have time to do in between patients,” Amanda said.
Amanda has been volunteering at Akron Children’s Hospital’s Beeghly campus 4 days a week, 6 to 8 hours a day, for the past 3 years. Since she was hospitalized as a child, she’s able to use her experience to explain tests to patients.
“I’ve had some of the very same tests offered in the department where I volunteer,” Amanda said. “So, I have firsthand experience, and maybe a different viewpoint, when explaining a procedure to a child.”
Amanda says she enjoys helping a child feel more at ease about a test or bringing a smile to their face when handing them a sticker. “Volunteering here has been a very rewarding experience.”
