Akron Children's Reinberger Family Center recently celebrated its 5th anniversary at an open house where employees, donors and patients and their families were able to see how the center has grown.
One of the families to return was Dominique Dampier and her five children. Her triplets, Samantha, Paige and Dominic, were in the NICU at Akron Children’s for three months.
“The Reinberger Family Center means a lot to me,” said Dampier. “It’s great to have this facility right down the hall from the NICU.”
Families seek relief from the center even when they’re not staying in the family rooms.
Randy Miller currently has a son in the NICU. The Millers are now staying at the Ronald McDonald House, but Randy says it’s “nice to have food and drink and a place to relax that is close to my son.”
Dampier also still uses the center when she's going to be at the hospital for a long day.
"It’s helpful if I have a full day here with different appointments,” said Dampier. “I can stop down and take a break and get something to eat.”
Many employees attended the event, as well as representatives from the Reinberger Foundation and Sterling Jewelers who provided financial support for the center.
“You guys were right there and you believed in it,” said Bill Considine, hospital president and CEO. “Because of your belief, that dream became a reality.”
