What mom wants to deliver her babies early?
It sure wasn't my plan to have our twin daughters at just 25 weeks and 5 days. I would have given ANYTHING to have stayed pregnant months, weeks, even days longer.
But when they decided to arrive on 11/12/13 (our lucky day!!!), there was no turning back.
This was when the NICU at St. Elizabeth became their first home and the place our family will forever be grateful.
Born at just 1 lb., 11 oz. and 1 lb, 10 oz., our little miracles came into this world fighting.
Knowing they had the doctors, nurses, and respiratory team fighting right along side them, my heart had a little relief every one of their 96 day journey to home.
We plan to celebrate their successful journey every year. Even if it is at the new NICU in Boardman, and not where it all began in Youngstown.
It isn't about "the place," but more about "the who" when it comes to how and why our little beauties are here and thriving! To simply look into the eyes of those who showed such remarkable care and compassion to our daughters and helped to put smiles on our faces when all we wanted to do was cry, is priceless to our family. Even if they don't realize it, they became part of our family on 11/12/13 as well.
So, thank you to Akron Children's NICU/Special Care Unit for giving our little miracles a chance to beat the odds and for all of the love and support during their "96 day journey to home!" Again, we are forever grateful!
