Ava is a twin and also born with a congenital heart disorder. She has had numerous appointments and tests with the heart center of Akron Children's. Her doctor is Dr. Bockoven. At the age of 5 1/2 months she underwent open heart surgery to have her heart repaired. That was a long day for us. It was very hard to see our baby lie there with a breathing tube, wires everywhere, a chest tube and machines everywhere. Her nurse in the PICU was so caring. She explained everything to us and answered every question we and our family had. We were told that Ava would be incubated for at least 48 hours...yeah not our Ava. She had that thing out that night.
Ava is a fighter. Just ask her nurses. They will tell you how she pulled out her wires and let them know when she wasn't happy. Miss Ava pulled through amazingly and even so well that she was only there for 5 days. Everyone at that hospital is amazing. It is hard to put into words what we went through in those 5 days, but I will say that everyone from doctors to nurses to support staff to the Ronald McDonald House made us feel safe and comfortable in our situation. They even provided items for Ava's twin sister and Ava's big brother.
Ava is now almost 9 months, 14 pounds, and ready to crawl. Oh, and she loves to talk. We still go back every 3 weeks to see Dr. Bockoven for checkups and according to him she is doing wonderful. He may even extend her visits out longer. We can't thank you enough on taking such great and wonderful care of our little angel. She is alive and well and going strong. Thank you Akron Children's. You are a blessing and godsend to not just children but their families as well.
