One year ago, we were at Akron Children's for our son's first step in lip repair. He was having lip adhesion surgery. It was such a hard day for us, but the staff at Akron Children's made themselves available to us the entire time we were in the hospital.
The nurses in the ICU helped us get through the tough parts right after surgery. They were the greatest. We couldn't be more thankful to them.
They made things so much less scary, and they explained so many things to us. They were angels -- as were the rest of the nurses who helped us for the rest of our hospital stay.
I feel like I should have thanked them more for everything they did. I also feel like I need to thank Cole's amazing surgeon and craniofacial team for being there every single step of the way. They even came to visit us after the office closed -- just to check up on Cole.
A year ago, I would have never believed you if you said, "Dr. Murthy performs miracles." I had it in my mind that you would always be able to tell that our little man had a cleft.
Now 1 year and 3 surgeries later, you can't even tell that our son had a cleft, let alone a surgery.
It is impossible for us to thank everyone enough for everything they have done. But saying it publicly is a good start.
To all of the surgeons, doctors, nurses and staff at Akron Children's Hospital, who have helped our family in one way or another, we are thankful for you this Thanksgiving. Thank you.
