Our Calendar is Full for Fall

Bekah and Chris had fun at the Kids Zone at the Youngstown Heart Walk.

Ever since Chris and I got married almost seven years ago it has always seemed like we’ve been busiest in the summer.

Most years I'm excited when fall finally arrives. I love the colors of the leaves, the smell of frost early in the morning, wearing cozy sweaters, and cuddling up under warm blankets at night.

Even when I was teaching full time I still felt more relaxed as fall approached and things began to slow down. Picnics, parties, ball games, weddings and road trips usually give way to quiet evenings at home watching lights come on around the neighborhood…until this year.

This year, the usual hustle and bustle of summer have overflowed into fall.

This year, our calendar for the month of September has been PACKED. I’m going to have to start adding notes in the margins if the month doesn’t end soon!

It seems like every few days we’ve had appointments or events to go to.

It’s not that I mind. We love having the ability to just pick Bekah up and go places. We know a lot of people who don’t have that luxury with their children.

Just sometimes I’d like to be able to remember what my closet floor looks like, or what it’s like to eat in the dining room instead of on the way to something.

Bekah, however, LOVES going places. She likes to meet all of the new people, and see all of the new things. She even loved the fireworks display after a Pittsburgh Pirates game we went to with a group of people from church a few weeks ago.

Bekah had fun seeing all of the kids at the Kids Zone (sponsored by the Heart Center, and manned by some of our favorite nurses!) last Saturday when we participated in the Youngstown Heart Walk, where, I regret to say, our team was handily beaten by the team headed by Dr. VandeKappelle, Bekah’s cardiologist.

It wouldn’t have been so bad, but we did a lot of trash talking about how we were going to have more people and more money than his team. So, like any good sports, when we found out we lost we just started planning for a bigger and better year next year.

The worst part (or best part) is that as we just keep getting busier, Bekah keeps getting bigger. I can’t even imagine how busy we’ll feel some day when we’re putting all of her school events on the calendar too.
