I went to the ER at St. Elizabeth's hospital when I was just over 24 weeks pregnant. I had severe pains in my abdomen. I was eventually diagnosed with preeclampsia and my husband and I were told that the only option was to deliver our son.
Dr. Jennifer Manning met with us and explained that because of how early he was born, that his chance of survival was not very good. She was compassionate, but wanted us to be prepared for what may lie ahead.
I had a C-section and our son was immediately whisked away by the doctors and nurses. In the recovery room Dr. Manning met with us. She looked exhausted. I knew that she had been working hard.
She explained that she was able to start a pic line and insert the breathing tube despite the fact that Daniel weighed only 470 grams. Without either of those two things it would have been very unlikely that he would have lived for very long.
She saved our son's life that night, and for that we will be eternally grateful.
For Daniel's 6-month stay at the NICU, we had the most amazing care. We felt supported by the staff and confident in their abilities.
Today, Daniel is almost 9 months old, weighs almost 14 pounds and is doing great.
Not a day goes by that I don't think back to the night he was born and know in my heart that we are a family today because Dr. Manning did everything she could do to give us our little miracle man!
