We officially have a 1 year old in our home. We are so blessed with such an amazing son being entrusted in our care. God has been so good to us.
There have been moments over the past couple of weeks as I’ve been preparing to celebrate our little man that I’m overwhelmed with emotions.
I would have never dreamed life with our child would be so rewarding.
I’d like to share some of the letter I’ve written for our little man for his birthday:
Peanut, Buster, little mister, little man, buck a roo, Jordan Matthew, son… These are a few names you’ve inherited over the past year. The funny thing is you respond to all of them.
We’ve had an amazing journey so far. Your dad and I scanned through the pictures and video of your first 9 days in Akron Children's NICU. Amazing! I can’t believe we started our journey with you in an amazing hospital with so many great people - from Dr. Stewart, the doctor who helped you out of mommy’s tummy, to Dr. Hudgins who closed the opening in your back and placed the straw in your head to drain the water, to Dr. Protein who monitored you in the NICU, to the amazing nurses who took such sweet care of you to prepare you to come home to your best dog, Sasha.
You’ve come a long way so far buddy. You’ve already blown us away by your determination. No matter what, we are blessed to take this journey together. Sure we’ve had a few bumps in the road, but those bumps have led us to trust Jesus that He has an amazing plan for you. You are one special kiddo.
When I think of the blessings we’ve seen, it almost seems like a dream. This thing we call life goes by so fast. I don’t want it to go by so fast that we forget to take the time to be thankful for you.
I want to first of all thank God for allowing me to be your mommy. My love for you grows each day. As I think of the blessings you have brought to our home, my heart explodes with joy. It’s a true joy knowing that God has had you in his perfect plan since the beginning of time. He has honored us by entrusting you in our care.
I love watching your dad become your daddy. He loves you so much. I’m not sure I’ve seen him so excited to get home to get down on the floor and play with you. He loves family time and even looks forward to the weekends I work to have daddy/Jordan time. You’ve been blessed with one amazing dad. I’m blessed to call him husband. I love him so much. I hope you grow up to be just like him.
You’ve not only taught us to be parents, you’ve taught me how to love. Son, you love like no one I’ve ever seen love before. Your love shows no prejudice. You show love to everyone you meet. It’s grown from seeing a newborn, to a smile to someone across the room, to leaning in for a hug. You show no bias. I’ve seen you change people’s lives. I pray you continue to show this love. Love is something that Jesus gave you as a gift.
Jordan Matthew, I can’t wait to see what God has in store for you this next year. I pray that you keep us accountable not to take anything for granted. I pray that we continue to meet amazing people on our journey together. I love you so much. Please never forget that.
Love you little mister,
