Expressive Therapy Center to use the arts to support healing

2012-02-07 13:52:00 by Leslie Meadows, as posted on the blog.

I recently joined the staff at Akron Children’s Hospital as the board certified music therapist. I will be working in the new Expressive Therapy Center with Barb Greenwood, our board certified art therapist. We are so excited about our opportunity to use the arts with patients and families, hospital staff and the community to assist with expression and healing.

We are working hard to get the center up and running.  We are:

- selecting equipment and supplies to meet the center’s music, art and computer needs

- working with the architectural/building crew to finalize details

- meeting with hospital staff and administrators

- visiting patients on the floors, at the Ronald MacDonald House and in their homes

We’re also planning Grand Opening events that will unveil this state-of-the-art facility to the community, staff and Akron Children’s Hospital families.  Barb and I will also develop a vibrant volunteer program for the center and the patient/family programming to meet the needs of the hospital. We welcome your questions, and hope to see you at one of the Grand Opening events planned for the third week of May.
