With the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s (ACGME) stamp of approval, Akron Children's Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute prepares young physicians to become well-rounded pediatricians. Steadfastly committed to making continual progress in pediatric healthcare, we seek to develop top-notch physician scientists.
To fulfill residency requirements, physicians must complete a scholarly project holding the promise of advancing pediatric medicine. Residents, who are paired with a faculty research advisor, identify a significant question not answered in current evidenced-based literature. We encourage residents to pursue investigative topics they find stimulating and compelling.
The Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute guides and supports residents over the course of their project, including study design, data collection, statistical analysis, and other assistance as needed. Residents present their study findings at a post-graduate research day.
Many residents present their research at national conferences and publication in prestigious peer-reviewed journals.
Akron Children’s fellowship programs are endorsed by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Fellowship programs provide physicians a firm grounding in the fundamentals of their chosen subspecialty.
The majority of our fellowships include a research component, generally in the program’s second year. The goal of fellowship research is to present significant work at a national conference or first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
The Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute provides direction to fellows as they select a project, identify a mentor, and begin formulating a large-scale clinical or translational research project. We encourage fellows to conduct original, novel and important research, worthy of disseminating their study findings.
We rely on your generosity to provide quality medical care to every child who needs us.
