Psychiatric Intake Response Center receives $40,000 in grant funding

Akron Children’s Hospital recently received funds from the Mary S. and David C. Corbin Foundation ($25,000) and the Tuscora Park Health and Wellness Foundation ($15,000) for support of the Psychiatric Intake Response Center (PIRC).

Since 2007, PIRC has provided access to round-the-clock, family-centered, diagnostic mental health services for children, teens and their families through the ER. PIRC helps families from 37 different counties. The number of children and families it serves has increased dramatically since its opening.

In 2010, PIRC served 2,248 children, as compared to 1,643 in 2008, which was the first full year of the program’s implementation.
