Mobile ICU provides high level care for our tiniest patients

The Northern Ohio Golf Charities Foundation recently granted the Women’s Board of Akron Children’s Hospital $45,000 for the purchase of a specialized Isolette® for the tiniest babies transported by our Neonatal Specialty Care Transport Team. The Women’s Board provided a matching gift of $55,497 to allow for the purchase of the equipment.

Used in the mobile intensive care unit, the Isolette will allow the team to deliver an ICU level of care to the bedside of neonates and premature babies when they are required to be transported from the hospital where they are born to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Akron Children’s Hospital.

The team uses the Isolette to transport babies younger than 28 days old, as small as 1 pound, and as large as 11 pounds. An estimated 350 infants will be transported using the new Isolette each year.
